This advertisement for the Brown Cow Saddle Blanket Company in Santa Fe, New Mexico was commissioned for a half-page ad in Inside Santa Fe Magazine. Inside Santa Fe is published by the tourism industry in Santa Fe to show off the historic city's culture, history, and attractions.
This one was a challenge as the publication would not allow us to use our trademark typefaces. All of the ads in Inside Santa Fe are done using only Gill Sans and Berkely Oldstyle. By using the bold, italic, and compressed versions of the permitted faces, I was able to produce an ad that stood out from most while keeping within the rules laid down by the publisher. |
| After I designed color business cards for Kelley Kamaka's dog grooming service, she asked me to adapt the card design for a black and white newspaper ad. The ad was going to be fairly small, a business card size, which is only 2x3.5 inches. Very small photos don't reproduce well in the small town paper she was advertising in, so we changed her photo on the original color card to a silhouette of a poodle, a dog known for its hairstyle. |
