The ruins of the Charles Heigold house in Louisville, Kentucky. The front fascade of the house is located along the Ohio River near downtown Louisville. The brick fascade is elegantly decorated with patriotic sculpture and text extolling the virtues of the pre-civil war United States and president James Buchanan. President Buchanan is portrayed in a sculpture above the second floor balcony door.

On the banks of the Ohio River, Louisville. This is only the front wall of the house, the rest has been demolished. The building, built in 1857 was built by a German Immigrant named Charles Heigold. Heigold built his house at a time of intense anti-immigrant sentiment in the US, so he covered it with patriotic inscriptions and images to show his loyalty to his adopted homeland. "Hail to Buchanan, Now and Forever" is inscribed below the head above the upper door. "Hail to the Union, Never Dissolve It" is inscribed elsewhere.
