Every Friday at Noon. Antiwar protests in Santa Fe, New Mexico photographed by Christopher Crawford

Every Friday from noon to one, peace activists in Santa Fe protest the war at the corner of Saint Francis Drive and Cerrillos Road. The crowd varies from just a few diehard regulars on rainy or cold days, to large crowds on nice days and politically important days like the Friday before an election. Many come dressed in costumes. Uncle Sam, Elvis Presley, Julius Caesar, Gandhi, and even Darth Vader have made appearances at the weekly demonstration.

I went to the protests nearly every week for a year and met some intersting people there and made some great friends. I agree completely with them although I think they're mostly preaching to the choir, since it's a virtual requirement to live in Santa Fe that you must oppose the war. But, it's nice to see people standing up for what they believe in, something people rarely did in my home state of Indiana. People there were pretty conservative, so few opposed the war, but even things that would cause conservatives to protest rarely brought my fellow Hoosiers into the streets.
