french doors with a bullet hole in an abandoned house in rural allen county, indiana on Smith Road near the Fort Wayne Airport

This house is on Smith Road behind Fort Wayne International Airport down the street from the site of an old schoolhouse that I used to photograph. This photograph was made December 4, 2005. I nearly froze even in my Russian wool coat.

I returned to Indiana from Santa Fe in 2007 to discover that the house, the barns, the silos...everything, were gone. An enormous pile of dirt from an industrial site down the road covers much of this site as well as the entire site of the schoolhouse that once sat just to the north.
